Dear John,
Thank you for your interest in France and for your question. I guess that you have read our pages about transport to Paris and the Ile de France region (http://www.french-property.com/regions/ ... l-network/ and http://www.french-property.com/regions/ ... rk-travel/).
From the Parisian airports, you may get to Calais and then London by car or by train. I have assumed that you left from Roissy airport.
By car: I have prepared a map for you here: http://www.mappy.com/mappyme/route?data ... 23D063EC7C (in English).
With an average car, it will cost you €43.29 in petrol/ diesel + €19.50 for toll roads. The length of this trip is 2h50 to Calais. You need to be at least a bit used to French motorways and road signs. From Calais, take the Tunnel to Folkestone. Prices vary from £49 (50 minutes) to £199 (90 minutes), have a look here http://www.eurotunnel.com/ukcP3Main/ukcPassengers/. Please also read this page http://www.eurotunnel.com/ukcP3Main/ukc ... ulInfo.htm before planning a trip through the tunnel with your car, careful also if your car is an LPG one.
By train: Roissy has a TGV station located next to the terminals. This is an easy trip that gets you direct to London.
Go to this address; http://www.sncf.co.uk/ and insert the details, this is a direct high-speed train from Roissy to London St Pancras. Careful to the prices, an average trip (one way) can cost £200. The train often calls in Lille and then heads to London via the Tunnel. The length is around 4 hrs.
If you leave from another Parisian airport, you will need to get to the Paris Gare du Nord station, being the most useful for you in this case. Tickets for the Eurostar from there can be booked there http://www.eurostar.com/ (in English). The company is in fact still the SNCF (the French railways). This page http://www.eurostar.com/UK/uk/leisure/t ... e_maps.jsp will help you understand the whole thing but it is basically the same service as the TGV under another name. To get to Paris Gare du Nord, you will need to take the métro and RER (a few euros for both tickets and something like one hour in length), the Parisian métro being basically the same as the Tube in London and the Stations being indicated with signs.
To sum up, I would strongly advise that you take a train directly from Roissy if you can, it will avoid much hassle even if the price is a bit high. Have a nice trip:!:
Kind regards,
The IFP Team
